What do I need to use DDR5 memory in my system?

600-series (or newer) motherboard chipset*

Intel - 12th generation (or newer) Core processor

AMD – Ryzen 7000 series (or newer) processor

*When choosing components, make sure the motherboard supports DDR5

Is DDR5 backward compatible with DDR4?

No. DDR5 has a different pin layout than DDR4 and DDR3. This means that DDR4 motherboards are not compatible with DDR5 RAM.
